LACROSSE.
Lacrosse players in Wellington will welcome the news of tho formation of a lacrosso club in Christchurch, as a result of recent efforts on the part of tho Wellington Association. The inaugural meeting (hold on Thursday last) was attended by some twenty men, among whom were three ex-Knglisii players of somo note, who arc now. resident in the southern city. The meeting was characterised by groat enthusiasm, and it was decided that the now club obtain a ground at St. Albans Park, where practice, matches will bo hetf, and practical tuition given to beginners by experienced players. It is , hoped that a team will bo sent from Wellington in about-two months' timo to give, in conjunction with local players, an exhibition of lacrosse in the Cathedral City. The final practice matches were played at Duppa .Street Park, Wellington, on Saturday afternoon, some gcod play being shown by many new players, as us by the more experienced members. Cup matches will commence on Saturday next, and bath, the Basin Reserve and Dnppa Street grounds will be used. There is every indication of a keen competition for tho Proud Cup. The Management Committee of Hip Wellington Association meets on Tuesday evening to arrango the fixtures for the' season.
