A SMART ARREST.

ALLEGED THEFT OF LIBRARY BOOKS. Official complaints havo been mado from timo to time during the last two or threo years by the Wellington Public Library authorities of tho frequent disappearance of books from the shelves. Yesterday, Detectives Cassells and Mason effected a smart arrest in Wellington of a man, on a charge of the theft of some of theso books —five works of reference. Tho discovery of the books in Wellington by tho detectives led to tho arrest. Tho charges in the caso date back as far as 1908. The ease will be called on this morning. It is alleged that tho free access that everyone has to the books in tho reference department of the local library is taken ndvantago of in soint cases to smuggle them out.
