CROWN TENANT'S TROUBLES. (By Telegraph,—Press Association,! Auckland, April 28. ' A Crown lands tenant was called on by the Auckland Land Board to show cause why his lease should not bo forfeited because of insufficient improvements. The ranger had reported that tho property was a harbour for rabbits. Tho board received a reply from the tenant who stated, among other peculiar things, that ho and his dog "had chased rabbits up till two and sometimes three o'clock in the morning for a fortnight." As a result, thero were fewer rabbits on his place than on the adjoining properties. He offered to show two unbribeable witnesses of that fact his own untouched vegetable garden and an adjacent flourishing field of turnips. Regarding improvements, he stated that the wiro was stolen from his fences as fast as he put it on . He added that tho district hold a flourishing and influential "criminal society."
