At a. meeting of the Borough Council on Tuesday evening tho local branch of the Wairarapa Boxing Association were granted permission to connect the gymnasium with the high-pressure, wa'ter mains. The annual meeting of the committee and subscribers of the Public Library was held on Tuesday evening, Mr. W. Howard Booth presiding. It was reported that there were 120 subscribers on the books of the institution. The report and balance-sheet wore read and adopted. Mr. W. C. Buchanan, M.l'., was elected patron, Mr. W. Howard Hooth president, Mr. A. N. Burns vice-president. Committee, .Mrs. Johnston, Messrs. J. G. Moore, W. Dounard, M. D. MacGonn, 13. Tropp, and C. 11. Cormaclc. A bonus of £5 was voted to the librarian in appreciation of liis work during the year. At a meeting of the committee, held later, Mr. W. Dounard was re-elected secretary. Messrs. Cormnck, and Dounard a . reading-room committee, and Mrs. Johnston and Mr. Tropp a book committee. A meeting of the Friendly Societies' Council takes place on Friday evening to receive an application for affiliation from the Hibernian Lodge.
