The downpour was at its heaviest about 4.21) p.m., and the tid.i was at high water lit about that time. The result was a backing up of wnter in the drains anil t-ewors, and dm consequent flooding of many of tlie collars at the lower curt of Queen Street. Streams of water, pouring over piles anii shelves of draperies, and drenching -M kinds of furnishing goods, was the spectacle witnessed in Messrs. Smith and C'aughey's drapery establishment. Stock valued at JC7OOO was thus injuriously affected, the causa being that the pipes were not capable of carrying the water off the roof*. Queen Street, for a quarter of an hour, resembled a river.
