LIVE STOCK SALES.

Messrs. Dalgety and Cn., Ltd., report having lield tiieir weekly sale in the Solway Yards, at Mfi&terton, yesterday, when they offered a good yarding of both cattle and sheep. The report stales:—Our sheep entry was principally empty full-mouth ewe?, which were hard to feU, but lambs, wethers. :;nii forward empty cwcn wore well competed for. Our cattle entry was of moth'M'-rcartid weaners and forward 3-year-old heifers, which sold at satfcfartory prices. Abraham and Williams, Ltd.. report on the Mastcrton sale, held yesterday, as follows:—A large yarding: of cattle of extra, good quality was submitted by the three firms, comprising gcod Shorthorn bullocks, steers, heifers, arid weaners. several large lines of the last-mentioned coming under the hammer. The sale on the whole was a. (successful one, and business at auction was good. practically a total clearance resulting. The entry of sheep was not of good quality, and the inquiry was limited, a dragging sale being experienced throughout. Quotations :— Grown steers, £6 2s. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., reports—At Johivsonville on Wednesday ox beef made from £9 12s. 6d. to £10 15s. for best, and from £9 to £9 10s. for lighter sorts. At the Addington Live Stock Markct-to-dav there were large entries of stock, and a good attendance. Fat cattle were firmer, store sheep sold at about late rates, and fat lambs showed li-ttlo change, but. if anything, were easier. Primo iat. sheen were firmer, but, owing to an extra large yarding, pigs met with a poor sale. The yarding of store sheep showed a further fal'ling-off in numbers, and consisted of about equal proportions of ewes, wethers, and lambs. There was a. good I clearance of thece, lambs being a shad? easier, young ev.e.i meeting with rather more inquiry, while owes of mixed ages and wethers sold at late rates. Six and 8-tooth crossbred ewes made Vis. Id. to lis.: 6 and 8-tooth halibrcd, Us. to 125.; 2-tootli halfbrcds, 10s. 6cl. to lis.; sound-mouthed 1 lots, 85. 3d. to 9s. 6d.; fair-mouthed, oi ! inferior class, 6s. 6d. to Bs.; potters, 2a. to ; 55.; merino culls, Is. 4d.; fair iambs, 7s. 9d. to Bs. 4d.; average lot?. 63. 6d. to 75.; inferior. 43." to :s. 6d.; wethers (Chatham Island), 10s. 6d. to lis. 7d.; medium, 9s. 3d.' to 9s. 9d.; others, ss. 9d.

The entry of fat lambii totalled 4936. or 1700 ic.-s than on the previous week. There was a fair proportion of prime lots, but the balnncc was of very indifferent quality!- Tho market opened very slack on tforao poor lines, but improved when better quality was readied. Priccs on the whole wero easier, though some prime Iot«3 sold well. There were 4542 taken for freezing at Ss. to 15s. 9d., a few special lambs making 17s, 6d.« to 18s. 6d. 197 were taken by butchers at Bs. to 14s. 10d., 13:5 by graziers at Bs.' to Bs. 9:1., and 62 were parsed at 9s. sd. to 10s. 6d. There was a- large-yarding of-fat sheen, but a considerable proportion consisted of aged- ewes, more or lc-.:s out of condition. Thero was a good demand for anything prime, both wethers and ewer, of this doccription selling at improved rates. Towards the end of tho salo ewes became mere difficult to quit, even at low prices, and a number of lots wore passed in. The rango of prices' was:—Extra priin« wethers to 255.; prime. 16s. to 195.; lighter, lie. to 15s. 6d.; prime ewes. 13s. to 17s. ICd.: medium, IPs. 6d. to 12s. 6d.; other:*, ss. Gd. to 10s.; merino wethers, 7s. 6d. to 9s. 6d. There was an entry of 273 head of fat cattle, including some prime show animals. Tho quality throughout showed an improvement, and there wm a, better demand though the salo was somewhat irregular. F.our prize bullocks made £14 to £16. Steers sold at .£7 15s. to £12 12s. 6d.; extra, to £16; heifers, £5 15s. to £8 2s. o\.\ extra, to £10 55.: cows. £5 7s. 6d. to £8 17?. 6d. Theso priccs were equal to 255. to 295. Cd. per 1001b. for prime, extra to 325., medium, 225. to 235. 6d., a-d cow and inferior, 20s. to 21s. 6d. Veal calves made 4s. 6d. to s(te., and some extra large went to 65?. Tho yarding of store cattle consisted principally of old .cows. , A few coed steeT3 sold well, but other • descriptions met with a dull demand. Yearlings made 205.; 15 to 335. to 42r„; 2-year steers, £3 15s. to £4 2a.; 3-year steers, £6 15s. to £7 155.; 3-year heifers, £4 35.; and dry cows, 255. to £4 10s. Dairy cows sold well, ranging from £3 10s. to £() ss. and up to £11 for extra good. . Duneriin, April 26. At Burnside to-day 156 fat cattle were yarded, tho bulk beinz mtdiurn to trood bullocks and heifers, with a, few pens of Drimo sorts. For all sorts there v.-a-s pood competition, best bullocku having most attention. Prices generally were on a par with last week's rates.
