The feature of the Harbour Board ele*V (ion in tho city was the heavy polling o< Mr. E, Fletcher, who tops tile poll and) distances his runner-up by about four thousand votes. All the other city members arc new to the board, but (like Mr, Flctch-er) they arc all members of Ilia City Council. The election of one representative on tin Wellington Harbour Board for payers of dues other than dues ou ships took place yesterday. THE SUBUHBAN DISTRICT. • Messrs. J. AV. M'Ewan (the sitting menu bet) and P. C. Freeth were elected to the Harbour Board as representatives of tho combined suburban district comprising the counties of Hutt and Makaro, the boroughs of Onslow. Karori, Miramar, Pe. (one, Lower Hutt, and, Eastbourno, and tlio Town districts of Johnsonvillo and Upper Hutt. The returns were not all received last night, those for Mira. mar, Ngahauranga, Paekakariki, York. Bay, and Tawa Flat not being to hand.i It is slated that theso cannot affect the : result of the election. It is reported that a number of Hutt and Petono doctors were under the impression that only one member was to be elected, as was tha case before tho new legislation was passed,and this mistake is held to account in part for Mr. M'Ewan's large majority, over Mr. Freetli. The new member is a' well-kuowri: journalist, and is editor and proprietor of the "Hutt and Petone, Chronicle." Tho defeated candidate is Captain D. J. AVatson. Tho Harbour Board poll for the com« billed district of Wanganui and Wanganui East, Gonville, and Castlecliff wastliat the old board's policy of constructing a harbour at the beads was approved, and the "harbour-in-town" scheme (of which Mr. A. Hatrick is tho chief exponent) was turned down. The towni members clcctcd were: Messrs. C. E„ Mackay, W. G. Bassett, A. G. Bignell, N. Meuli.T. B. Williams, and Jno. Jones. The last-named is the Mayor of Wanganui East. • Tho Mnvor of Wanganui (Mr. Mackay) headed the poll, partly on account "of bis opponents* splitting theii vote, and partly because of tho fino fighting speech with which lie closed his campaign. Mr. J. B. Murray, chairman of the old board, was returned at (ho head of the poll for Waitotara County. Mr. W. Ritchie, also a member of tho old board, was returned as his colleague. An unusual amount of interest was manifested in the Borough Council and Harbour Board elections to-day, especially in the latter, in which the breakwater harbour and inner harbour parties worked strenuously throughout tho day in. order to secure the return of their respective candidates. The polling was very heavy, and it is not expected that the results will bo announced till after midnight. Now Plymouth, April 26. Mr. J. B. Corinett (chairman) was reelected, with Mr. C. K. Bellringer (new member) to tho New Plymouth Harbour Board.
