PERSONAL AND OTHER NOTES. (From Our Snocial Correspondent.) Palmerston, April 26. A presentation was mado to KifleniaQ Needham last evening by flic Palmerston Rifles and tho Linton Rifle Club. Rifleman Needham is one of the team whicl) has been selected to represent the Domin- ; ion at the great Bisley nflo contest; and i liis comrades in tho corps aiul club dctei--1 mined to give liinV a tangible tokeni of ■ the esteem in which lie is held. Captain ' Mounsey, of tho Palmerston Rifles, prosided, and, in presenting Rifleman Noed- ' ham with a purse of sovereigns, said that ' he was sure'that he would do credit both ; to his district and to tho Dominion. a mark of appreciation of tho services which he had rendered to the association for many years. An old resident of Palmerston, Mrs. Rickard, passed away yesterday, aged 09 vears. The deceased lady leaves a Brownud family, of whom the sons are Messrs. James Ri'ckard, of Wellington, and Albert and John Rickard, of Pa merston Ihe daughters are Mrs. John Row, ot Otaki, Mrs? H. Bryant, and Miss Rose Bryant, of Palmerston. Another old resident, Mrs. Monteith, of Rail si I a lie, has also passed away at ■the age of 67 years. Deceased, who was a native of Ireland, came to Now Zealand over thirty years ago. She was a. one time matron of the Ivuniara Hospital. Mrs. Montcith was accorded an Orango funeral to-day., Miss Campbell, chaplain nf flu* Women 8 Lodge, conducting tho L.O.L. service, and the Rev. D. Hird the Congregational Church sen ice. Tho Mayor, Mr. J. A. Nash, addressed •, lar»o meeting of the ratepayers at tho Municipal llall last night, and gave uu account of his stewardship lor the past vear. He also mapped out various undertakings which he would (\d\owito during his current term, including trams, baths, « new library, and other works. At tho conclusion of his address he was accorded a hoarlv vote of thanks. Messrs. Redmond and Hazleton, Irish Nationalist envoys, and Jlr. J. T. Donovan, who accompanies them, arc to givo addresses in Palmerston on May 10. Notwithstanding the inclement wcathor vc«terday, there was a good muster of members of tho Manawatu Ladies' (jolt Club on the Hoko\thitu links, when tho senior and junior medal competitions took place, The senior contest was won by Mrs F S M'liae, with a net scoro of 9!), Mrs! H. C. Meilsop and Mrs. F. Seifert tieing for .second piaee with net scores of 100 The junior contest was won by Mrs. AY. E. Bendall, Mrs. Coombs being sec* oud. '
