GENERAL COMMITTEE. (By T<fleera.ph.-SDecial Correspondent.) Palmerston North, April 25. Tho monthly meeting of tho General Committee of the Manawatu A. and P. Association was held to-day, Mr. A. Conway presiding over a very largo attendance of members. Correspondence was read as follows:— From Mr. A. -Wheeler, acknowledging- a letter of condolenco from tho as< sociation, and a wreath sent l on the occasion of tho late Mr. G. C. .Wheeler's funeral. From Mr. H. D. Buchanan, stating that Mr. H. B. Tucker had promised a trophy, valued at £5 55., for the most, poiuts in fat sheep.—Accepted .with thanks. ' , From Mr. E..C. Smith, Palmerston, explaining his reason for withdrawing the first prize donated by him for thebest pony turnt ut at the last spruig ■ show, and stating that.the turnout.as shown by Mr. Moynihan, of Shannon, and drjven by Miss Robertson, did not como under.the .meaning of tho conditions of his prize.—-It was decided (that Mr. Moynihan was honestly entitled tp the. prize, , and that Mr. Smith be asked to hand it over. From tho Woodlands Hunt Club, asking, for tho, co-operation of the as- . sociation in obtaining, if considered desirable, special totaHsatpr permits for -Hiiht -Club race meetings.—Received. From the Naval and Military To'ur- . nament Committee, forwarding £50 rent of ground, and stating that the fross receipts for ground and stands ad been £500 14s. 6d. Tho committee expressed the opinion that the rent was /too high,.-and that if it was insistedupon it would bo impossible to carry oh. It was desired that tho association full}', consider tho matter, and if possible make a refund.—Rebate of £10 made. . : From the North Island Band Contest Committee, applying, for rebate of £5 made for the use of ; tho hall'during the contest.. The committee paid £20 for t>.e use of tho' ground, nearly £5. for eieaning the hall, and £5 for the nso of the hall. The contest showed a loss •of £25.—Refund granted. ■:'■■ Mr. J.. Wingatc, one of the delegates ( who attended the conference in Wel- , lington on the question of sending a man Homo to watch the handling of ; frozen : meat at the London end, attended and gavo a resume of what had been done at tho conference. Hβ was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Tho- Gear Meat .Company was also lhanked for its assistanco in sending Home tho lambs exhibited at the last spring show without making any charge. . . • ■' The : reports of the Dairy Show Committee, Ground Committee,, and Finance Committee were read and received. ■'.■';' The.recommendation of- tho Finance Committee that the secretary, be requested to resign tho secretaryship-of tho Jersey Breeders' Association -and the Sheep Breeders' Association, and devote' the whole of his attention to tho interests of the A. and P. Association was adopted. Tho dates of the spring show were fixed for November 1, 2, and 3. Messrs. Jacob and Cohen were appointed, to report upon a suitable manner in which to comisemorato'the services of: the late ; -Mr. G. C. Wheeler. Mr. D. P. Buchanan suggested that the whole of the Romney breeders would be only too pleased to contribute towards the erection of a sheep pavilion in memory of Mr. Wheeler. Messrs. R. Lloyd and D. Thomas wero elected to fill two vacancies on tho General Committee.
