Tho barometer has been unsteady in tho southernmost districts, but rose steadily last, night elsewhere. Jloilcralo and variable winds have prevailed, with a predominance of westerly and northerly. Heavy rain fell in the middle districts of the North Island last night, nnd showers were reported in parts this morning, but the weather has improved generally to-day. Present- indications are for increasina northerly ami westerly winds, fair weather in the northernmost and East Coast districts, hut changeable elsewhere, with thowors in part?, especially in the far south and on the West Coast of the South Island.
