NOTES AND COMMENTS. THE TRENTHAM MEETING. [By Glencoe:] Those who journeyed out to Trentham yesterday in anticipation of seeing somo fast work were greatly disappointed, foi the only good gallop recorded during the morning was done by Air. E. J. Watt's Royal Scotch, who, from a, Hying start, ran four furlongs in oOsee. The weather was fino, and all the work was dono on No. 1 grass gallop. Amongst the first to work were tho Clifford-owned quintet, Terebinth, Alasterpicce, Madam Madcap, Avarice, and Sharpshooter, who all got through useful tasks. J. Low's - pair—Effort and Gold Lace—ran halt a mile comfortably in olsec. The grey colt Alira accompanied Iranui over seven furlongs, no timo being taken. , . J. H. Prosser sent Kina aud Laius over six furlongs, but no time was accomplished. Torbello was schooled over four fences, and'jumped well. Tho other hurdler, Ribstono Pippin, , ' was only given light work. Gipsy Belle and Turna word given half-pace work, but the two-year-olds Aloha and St. Petersburg galloped "at top" over six furlongs. The Thompson Handicap candidate Dearest was sent along a mile under a good pull. Alorrivonia galloped a milo -pleasingly in lmiu. 49scc, and seemed to pull up well. Sea Queen was given half-pace work. It is understood that tho St. Ambrose filly will start in the Thompson Handicap. R. Lewis, who rode Cadonia to victory in tho A.J.C. St. Legeron April 15, had twico previously ridden tho winner of that event, his successes being on Emir and Clean Sweep. The Sydney trainer, I. Farnshaw, who leaves for England this week, turned out the winners' of three two-year-old races at Randwick, and gained second in the Sydney ' Cup, which was won by his own filly Aloorilla, who is held, on lease by J. Jloore. R. Cameron, writing from Melbourne, states that he did not journey 'to Randwick for the A.J.C. meeting as there wero numerous mounts offering at-home. During Easter week' ho won races on 1 Coppertop at Alentone, Corroboree at Williamstown, and on Advantage and Alasonic at smaller meetings.' ' . A number of horses arrived from the south by the southern steamer yesterday morning. J. Franks brought Culprit, Aphaea, Sunburnt, Khamsin, and Bandiera. It. J. Alason's contingent consisted of Danube, Picrene, and Alnzurka. H. Gray, who will ride Air. Greenwood's horses at the Wellington Racing Club's meeting, arrived in town yesterday, and went on to Trentham in tho evening. . Equitas reached Trentham last night in cliargo_ of F. Tilley. Among tho other arrivals were Lady Aloutoa, Aloutoa Girl; and Alaster Sylvia. G. Price's team'will reach Trentham from Awapuni this afternoon. A-.Neale, with Vibration, and J. On tho second day of the meeting Gold Thread was made favourito in the Fly-; ing Handicap, but she was beaten before they had gone three furlongs. There were 14 starters for' the first A.J.C. At the bloodstock sales to-day the brood mare Irish Corner (own sister to Poseidon) brought 425 guineas; Fungus (Hautbrion—Blue Aloukl), 450 guineas; Aurora II (Collar—Fair Emigrant), 500 guineas. On account of Air. C. Weal, Auckland, Whitteren was sold, for 30 guineas. A number of horses in'training were submitted. Bobadea (Bobadil—Ardea) brought 460 guineas, and his brother Diabolo, 500 guineas. Danaus (Bobadil—Danaide) went for 620 Kuiueas, and Philio (Andria —Phyllis), 600 guineas. ' (Rec.
