PROFESSOR W. R, INGE APPOINTED. By Telenraph—Press Association-OoDyrieht London, April 24. The Rev. W. R, Inge, Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity at Cambridge, succeeds Dr. Gregory as Dean of St. Paul's Cathedral, London. •
A DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR. The Rev, William Ralph Inge,' D.D., was born in 1800. being the eldest. son of the late Rev.'William'lnge, D.D., provost of Worcosrer College, Oxford. He was educated at Eton-and King's Collego (Cambridge). He was Bell scholar and Porson prizeman in 1860, Porson scholar in 1881, Craven scholar and Brown medallist in 1882. Senior Chancellor's medallist in 1883. Hβ took a first class in classics in 1882 and 1883*-and was Hare prizeman in 1885. From 1831 to 1888, he was an assistant master at Eton, a fellow of King's College from 188G-88, a fellow and tutor of Hereford College, Oxford, from 1889 to 1904, select preacher at Oxford 1893-95, and 1903-05, and select preacher at Cambridge in 1901, 1906, and 1910. He was Bampton lecturer in 1899 and Paddock leoturer, New York, in 1906. From 1905 to 1907 he .was vicar of All Saints', Ennismore Gardens, London, and was then appointed Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity at Cambridge. His publications include: "Society in Rome Under the ■Caesars," "Christian Mysticism," "Faith and Knowledge," "Personal Idealism and Mysticism," and "Faith and Psychology,"
