EDUCATION BOARD.
I MONTHLY MEETINC. The monthly meeting of the Web lington Education Board was held yesterday, there heing present: Mr. ltobert Lee (chairman), and Messrs. J. Kebbell, A. H. Vile; J. G. W. Aitken, Wm. Allan, H. Elder, A. \V„ Hogg, M.P., and W. 0. Buchanan, M.P. According to the monthly statement of finances the board's funds were in credit to the amount of £1427 4s. 6d.; the credit balance for the previous month was £1017 2s. 6d. Debit balances were shown in the building account (£7195 3s. Id.) and the secondary account (£348 19s.- 6d.). GOVERNMENT GRANTS. • Government grants for educational purposes were received by the board as tollow:—Pahiatua, fittings, science, cookery, and woodwork, £260; Waiiuii-o-mata (residence), £410; Martinbor?ugh, half cost site, £75; residence edv r °P«n nt \Y grants , (ei S ht a,ltlloriseu), M3U; Normandale- and Carringtoii, additional sum required, £99 12s.
MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT. On the recommendation of the Finance Committee, proposals submitted by the clerk of, works for repairs and painting (general overhaul) of the following schools and residences v.ero ai> proved:— ■•.■-.-■ '■ Wadestown, lVaituna, Newman, Reikorangi, Jlauncevillo West, Waihokeke, Teuui. Hukaum, Dalefield, Mangatainoka Parkvale,- ,Te Horo, Kaiwaiwai, Ponatahi (including residence), Mastortou (mam), Ngaturi, Khanda'Hah, Taueru, Dreyer's Rock, Wangaehuj Horokiwi, Pahautanui, Judgeford. Residences.—Whakataki, Mauriceville West, Waihakeke, Kilbirnie, Temii, Greytown, Dalefield, Mangatainoka,. Parkvale, Ohariu. Kaiwaiwai, Ponat'ahi (included in- school). Taueru, Paraparaurnu. .'. ■ , : ~ Giants for works or supplies as per applications were authorised for" the : following schools:. -- FeatheYstoni (grates), Carrington (wire, etc.), Clare-' yillo (removal of galleries), Scarborough", (tank and stand), Mount Cook Girls' (subsidy • for- asphalting), Mitchelltown(outbuildings and equipment), South Wellington (painting), Pahiatua (conversion of buildings to sjieds),'Martinborough (gymnasium flooring), 'Mako-I mako (repairs, etc.), Dalefield (re--' pairs).

Rongo-' kokako.—That the board agree-to rent the hall at ss. per week; provided that covers all expenses. That the inquiry made by the Auditor-General regarding 1 ' industrial hall be referred to the board's!, solicitors. OTHER MATTERS. ; The application of H.
