STRANGE POSSIBILITIES.
VALUATION DEPARTMENT. Thomas Cook has asked tho Pctone Borough Council for a refund of £7 4s. 10d., being, he alleges, the total amount of over-charged rates paid by him. After reading the letter at tho meeting of the council last night, the Mavor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) said: "I find that tho Valuation Department has placed I houses on properties—and no houses exist."
Tho councillors smiled, but said little, and the Mayor continued: "I think it is a matter the officers should look into. lam of opinion that it (tho claim) is a fair thing to ask. My opinion is that, tho position is as stated. In the meantime I move tint a report be prepared." The motion was carriod.
