GOVERNMENT BRICKWORKS.
OPENED IN NEW SOUTH WALES. By Telccraph—Press Association—OoDyriEbt : (Rec. April 24,'8.45 p.m.) Sydney, April 24. Mr. Griffiths (Minister for Works) officially started the Government brickworks at Home Bush Bay. Hdsaid the Government's policy .was to enable tho people to obtain the'things necessary for their welfare at reasonable rates. If the price of bricks in Sydney was not brought down within reasonable- proportions,' then;[the Government would go furtljpi ithjU'.imakiiig i-brjcksi for . its own usej" and undertako tho supply to tho general public at a reasonable price. The Government had a necessary respect for private enterprise, but when, private enterprise became public spoliation, then it was timo_ for the Government to tako into consideration tho interests of tho people despoiled. Preparations wore being mado to largely extend the plant, and to produce all the bricks required. Tho Government Superintendent' of Works stated that he Would bo able'to supply bricks at twenty shillings a thousand.
