CENSUS DISAPPOINTING. (By Talecri'Db.-SDOcial Correspondents Palmerston, April 24. Three patients were admitted to tho Palmerston North Hospital on Saturday suffering from accidental injuries, one being a young man named Elcoek, who had his elbow dislocated in a football matcli. Another, named — Carter, was suffering from severe injuries to his hand, as the result of a fall from his bicycle, while the third was a man named John Parker, employed as a flaxcutter at , Messrs. SciferVs flaxmiU, Tokoniaru. It appears that lie had a bundle- of green flax on his shoulder, and, in turning round, by some means dislocated tho knee of his right leg. The accident happened in a verv sudden manner, so that tho sufferer can scarcely explain how. .
. The census returns' 'for Palmerston give a total approximately of 10,700 — being an increase of four* hundred and sixty on the previous census. The figures are disappointing, as it was quito •expected that the total would bo over 12,000. The Manawatu Golf Club opened tho season on Saturday afternoon in beautiful weather. The greens were in capital order, and some good form was shown, especially for the first match of the season. Mr. and Mrs. P. Seifert were the most successful players, doing the eourso in 65 net. ' They wore closely followed by Mr. and Mrs. C. Adams" and Mr. H. G. and Miss Moore, who each returned with 66. The best.gross score was put up by Mr. A. Barraud and Miss Sylvia Abraham, with 70 Mr. P. A. M'Hardy and Mrs. L. A.Abraham verc next with 73.
