. At a-meoting of the Petone Borough Council last v night the Mayor, presented a statement of .finances. , ;_ The .councillors in attendance were- Councillors Short, H. Harding, R. J. Sout-hgatc, C. P. Brocklebank, J. Piper, R. H. Jones, and W. Trueman. • ■'>'~'.'■ '."■'.: '.-.
The Mayor said that the year's working showed a surplus of £511 6s. Bd. The receipts had been:—Rates, £6588 Os. lid.; licenses','£246 25.; dog tax, £178 17s.'Gel.; municipal shop rents, £331 ■lOs.jPetone Fire Board, £68 4s. 6d.; :'libraiy, £76 15s. Bd.; railway workshops, £111 4s. 6d.; building permits. £48 16s. Set:;' Government subsidy, on rates, £787; charitable aid refunds, £-30 18s. od.; ambulance wagon, £175 12si Id.; and sundries, £315 6s. Id., Those amounts totalled £9024 12s. 7d.; •:
The expenditure liad been as follows: —Salaries, £613 17s. 6d.; printing and advertising, £141 ss. 3d.; law costs, .£36 175.; Fire Board levy, £303 13s. .Sd.; maintenance Hutbßoad,. £226 13s. . 7d."; general maintenance, £2455 10s. 3d.; charitable aid expense's, £35,185. 2d.; recreation ground, £261 11s. 9d.; sanitary service, £1766 185.;,. street lighting, £350; library £134 19s, 5d.; ambulance , wagon, £175 2s. Id.; accident insurance, £60 9s. 6d.; interest and..si.nking fund, £J525.185., 9d.,;and sundries, £414 Is. , As .to .the . waterworks-, maintenance account,-the total receipts were £1710 17s. Bd. Kates brought in £1371 Bs. 3d., Government railways £200, Woollen Company £50, and sundr&s £89 ■9s. sd.
