■ $■ The Hon. .T. Carroll returned from the north on Saturday afternoon. The Hon. D. Burtdo returned from Christchurch. yesterday morning. The Hon. T. Mackenzie returned from the south yesterday morning. Archdeacon Harper leaves Wellington this week on a vi.-.itation round in his Archdeaconry of Eangitikei. Mr. V. G. Bolton has decided to contest (he Wellington East seat at the next general election. At the last election Mr. ISolt'.m was one of the candidates far Wellington North. The consecration of the new Anglican Bishop of Auckland (Archdeacon Crossley) will take place in St. Mary's Cathedral, Auckland, to-morrow (St. Mark , * Day). Bishop Julius, of Christchurch, the Acting-Primate, will conduct the Mrvice. The employees on the 'WellingtonPetone railway duplication works have presented Mr. Lee (Government Inspector) with a gold watch and chain, and his wife villi a handbag, as a token of their esteem. The presentation was made by Mr. J. Widdop, District Engineer. Mr. G. M'Kcllar, of the Customs Department, who is at present on relieving duly at Wanganui, is under orders to transfer from Wellington to Dunedin, where he will take up the position of landing waiter. Jlr. .M'Kellar, who is a New Zealand representative icotballer, will be missed by tun Wellington Football Club, and also by the Thormlon Swimming Club and the local life-saving bian'cli.
A pleasant function look place in the warehouse of Messrs. W. 11. .Nash, Parish Street, last week, when the employees assembled .to bid farewell to their fellowemployee, Mr. H. Mintoft, prior to his departure to Auckland to take, up the position of manager of the phonograph department of Messrs. A. Nathan and Co., Ltd. Mr. Min'oft has been nine years in the employment cf Mr. Nash, both as traveller and first salesman, and will be missed by the firm and his many acquaintances. Jlr. Nash, in presenting him with a. handsome portfolio, expressed regret at losing his services.
Mr. W. li. C. Oswin has been presented with a handsamo gift by the members cf the Star Hnn.ting Club on the occasion of his wedding. Tho presentation was made by the. captain of the club (Mr. A. D. Bayiiold), who referred in terms of high praise to Mr. Oswin's popularity! as a member, and to his good record as an oarsman. The honours board showed that his record, had ranged from the youths' fours to (he champion four-oared crew—a record which any member should feel proud of. Mr. Oswin thanked the members for the handsome present and their good wishes. He also made reference to Mr. J. E. Widdop, to whose excellent coaching he owed his success as an oarsman.
