King Victor Emmanuel welcomed Prince Arthur of Connaught (son of the Duke of Connaught), who was the bearer of King George's congratulations on Italy's Jubilee. There was a frantic pro-British demonstration on the Prince's arrival. A crowd of twentyfive thousand persons assembled outside tie Quiriiial. UNBROKEN CORDIALITY. In the course of a speech in Parliament on February 6, Sir. Asquith said: "May I lake this opportunity to allude in one sentence to tho fact that this year we are celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of Italian unity. (Cheers.) That unity was struggled for and achieved with tho sympathy of the great majority of tho people of this country. Since it has been attained, unbroken cordiality has reigned between the two kingdoms, and a lasting friendship has been established on the basis of mutual understanding and goodwill." (Cheers.) COMING FETES. During tho fetes which will take place in Italy on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the proclamation of the kingdom, when there will be great exhibitions in Turin and Rome, a competition for rowing and motor boats is to be held which seems likely to arouse considerable interest. Tho chief "event" will consist of a trip from Turin to Rome by way of Venice. The so-called "cruise" will be divided into three sections, entirely independent of each other. The first section will be for rowing boats only, and will bo from Turin to Pavia by tho River Po. The second will bo for small motor boats, and will be from Pavia to Venice by the same river. The third will be for large motor boats, and will be from Venice to Rome. Tho start from Turin will take nlacc about the middle of June, 1911. The start for the third, or maritime, section of the "event"—from Venice to Rome—will take place at the beginning of July. This section is by far the most_ important, and for it the large?t prizes will lie.offered. It will be divided into ten stages of about 170 miles each.
