. j— A FAREWELL "AT HOME."At the Marine Engineers' Institute Building last night, an "at homo" was given to Mr. Ernest 11. Parkes, by tho complimentary concert committee and their friends. During tho evening vocal find instrumental items were given by Misses Watkins. Hardingo-Maltbjr, May Donaldson, and Ludwig, Madame (jroome, Atr*. Sutcliffe, Messrs. Ernest H. Parkes, E. J. Hill; .1. F. Carr, Orr, Alec Newton, D. Kenny, J. Dykes, and Borneo Gardiner. . Mr. E. J. Hill, chainiian of the committee, in presenting Mr. Parkes with a purse of sovereigns, made special mention 'of those who had worked liard to make the complimentary coucert a success, namely. Mesdamos Coull, Montague, Sutj cliffe, E. J. Hill, and Fraseiy Messrs. Dykes (secretary), and Eraser (treasurer). Continuing, tho chairman expressed pleasure, on behalf of the citizens of ■Wellington, in handing to Mr. Parkes tho purs© representing the sum of XIO!!—tho net; return of the conce.-t, which ho felt certain 'established a record for complimentary concerts in this city. That the recipient fully deserved tho honour bestowed on him, all were agreed, for he had been kind mid sympathetic in helping charitable objects whenever called on, and, to the very best of his ability) ho had taken his part as a true and loyal citizen. That his work had been appreciated ho had already proof. They were all sorry that he was going away, but, while t hoy should miss him very much, they knew that others would have tho pleasure of listening to him. After he had received tha necessary training they hoped that ho would long be spared to lift up his glorious voieo in song. In conclusion, the speaker asked Mr. Parkes to accept the purse with tho very best wishes of his fellow citizens, who wished him "God speed." Mr. Parkes, who was received with cheers, feelingly replied.
