CITY COUNCIL.
FINAL MEETING. The final meeting of the City Council as at present constituted was held last evening. The Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford) presided. Also present were:—Councillors ■I. I'. Luke, J. Smith, F. Cohen, G. Frost, J. Trevor, W. 11. Thompson, A. H. Ilindniarsh, R. Fletcher, G. Shirtcliffo, \V. H. Morrah, J. K. Fitzgerald, and A. l'{. Atkinson, Councillor ShirtelilTo introduced a deputation of master butchers, who desired that a slight variation should be made in tho conditions under which ofl'al is removed from tho abattoir. Mr. Hampton was spokesman. The council decided to try the desired alterations for three months. Tho By-laws, Fire Brigade, and Street Lighting Committee recommended, inter alia, that an application for permission to carry out certain alterations to a building at Boulcott Street for the purpose of a skating rink, be not acceded to, as the building is totally unfit lor the purpose intended—Adopted. Tho Baths and City Reserves Committee recommended:— I That tho application of the Wellington Lacrosse Association for the uso of the Basin Reserve for a match against Auckland, with permission to chargo for admission, be granted. That (he rooms at tho Basin Reserve bo let at .£2 2s. per season for two'evenings per wc^k,—Adopted. While tho report of the Reserves Committeo was under consideration, Councillor Luke, 011 behalf of (lie committee, expressed its appreciation of tho services rendered if during its term of offico by the Town Clerk (Mr. Palmer), Superintendent of Reserves (Mr. Glen), and the clerk of the committee (Mr. M'Bain). The Mayor spoke appreciatively of tho services rendered .by Councillors Luke and Morrah, who arc not seeking re-election. Councillor ITindmrtrsli made similar reference to Councillor Carmicliael. Councillor Fletcher moved that the council place 011 record its appreciation of the. services rendered to the city bv Councillors Luke, Morrah. and Cavmic'iael. Councillor Shirtcliffc seconded tho motion. and it was supported by Councillor Smith. Councillor Atkinson said he regretted the motion had been introduced. It amounted to little more than an empty form, but a similar motion would now have to be passed every time a councillor retired. Not to do so would amount to a vote of censure. The motion was carried unanimoiislv, and Councillors Luke and Morrah briefly thanked the council.
