HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
(frsm Our Own Correspondent.) Councillor Piper will give an account of his stewardship to the electors of Petone to-night. Mr. A. H. Medhurst will be a candidate for the Petonp District High School Committee, the election of which' will tako place nest Monday evening. At the Petone Railway Worsliops yesterday, leading carpenter M'Kenzic, who is unclcr transfer to Invorcargill, was presented with a cafe of pipes and hand-bag from the staff of tho maintenance department. Certain circumstances in regard to a lieap of straw which was afire on the stop-bank at Lower Ilutt on Tuesday night have (it is understood) led to .inquiries being made by the police. The Ladies' Committee who are organising a bazaar for the Petone Municipal Band held another of their series of "socials" last evening. It was well attended. It is understood that Dr. H. Harding was nominated for a seat on tho Petom! Borough Council by Messrs. 11. J. Palmer and James Barlow, but the nomination coming through the post was received after tho hour of closing of the nominations, and was on that account rejected.
