HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
(Br 3m Our Own Correspondent.) A sitting of the Lower Hutt Court was held yesterday morning. The presiding justices were Messrs. J. A. Peterkin and J. Cudby. John Howy Pace was charged with ill-treating a horse by working it in harness when its shoulders were sore. Poiico evidence was to the effect that tho case w.\s u bad one, there being nine distinct sores on the animal. Otherwise, however, it was in good condition. Mr. Fitzgibbbn, who appeared for accused, entered a plea of guilty. In imposing a penalty of 40s. and .£1 2s. costs, with the alternative of a month's imprisonment, tho:Bench said that cruelty of this kind was prevalent in the Hutt Valley, and it would have to bo put a stop to. Robert Walker, for cycling on the footpath along the Hutt Eoad, was fined ss. with costs 7s. "''
J. Dawson pleaded guilty, to riding a bicycle without a light after sunset, and was fined 55., with 7s. costs.
