VICTORIA COLLEGE.
THE YEAR'S FINANCES. The monthly meetinc of tho Victoria, College Council was hold last evening, there being nrcseut: Tho chairman. (Itr. H. F. von Ifanst), and Messrs. C. AVatsnn, A. If. Meek, ,T. Grnhnm, M.P., T. l>. Fleming, E. D. Bell, A. W. Hogg, M.l'., 11. H. Ostler, and A. T. Maginnity. On tho recommendation of tho Professorial Board it whs decided that a set of the latest edition cf the "Encyclopaedia Britannica" bo procuroil for the Collego Library, at a cost of £21 13s. Tho Library Commitl<lo recommended that tho Victoria College Council join the Public Libraries Association of New Zealand, and tho chairman of the Library Committee be empowered to represent tho council at tho Libraries Conference (at present fitting at Auckland), and that tho treasurer be asked to pay the subscription to Iho association lor tlui current year. Tho recommendation wns adopted. It wits also npicccl that tho Finance Committee be instructed to confer witli tlie Professorial Board with regard to tliu future management of tho library, Mr. E. D. Bell was very strongly of opinion that the management of (be College Library should be carefully considered, and placed upon a more satisfactory footing than had hitherto been the casi , . Things were rather "criss-cross" as lit prosent managed. A memorandum of the college finances for the month showed that the balance in the bank, alter providing for payments amounting to ,1808 Ms. 4d., was .£'256 3j. !>d. A sum of .51875 was duo from tho Government, while there was on. deposit n sum of .€1522 10s. The Finance Committee having, it reported, carefully considered (ho matter of ways and means for the current year, submitted estimates of receipts and expenditure, and also the receipts and expenditure, for the year ended March 31, I'.lll. The following is an analysis of tho receipts and expenditure for the year ended Slnvch 31, 1!)11:— Receipts: Balance brought forward, .C 3150 Is. 7d.; ijr.int.s fes, calendars, inI crest, rent of reserve, ,£OG2I ss. 6d.; donations, bequest!., subscriptions, and subsidies, .-C702 3s. j sundry items, JJS2J 17s. 3d.; total receipts, 0113,901 7s. .id.
