MR. MASSEY'S TOUR.
HOPEFUL SIGNS. . (By Tclecraph.-iSpecial Correspondent.) Auckland, April 19. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr. Wt. F. Massey, M.P.), who returned a day. or two ago from his trip to the South island, informed a "Herald" reporter yesterday that his tour had been in every way a most successful and satisfactory one. Ho addressed ten meetings in all, ono being at Nelson, one at Kaikoura, and the remainder in various centres in Canterbury and Otago, including a very successful meeting at Dunedin. Mr. Massey states that he was received in the most friendly spirit at every place visited by him, and he was informed that his meetings at Nelson and Dunedin wcro two of the best political meetings over held in the South Island. "It is quiM certain," said M.r. Massey, "that the people general,* ars taking nioro interest in politics than they have done for many years past. It is yet too soon, of course, to make any prediction as to what will happen at the forthcoming general election, tat it is gratifying to know that more good candidates are likely to offer their services in the Opposition interest this year than has been the case for the past 'three or four elections." Mr. Massey intends to return to the South Island about tho middle of next month, when he will address further meetings there. In the meantime, he will fulfil several engagements in the Auckland province.
