(l''rom Our Special Correspondent.) ' Masterton, April 18. Mr. Frederick 13. Lows, of Eketahuna, was to-day nominated for one of tho vacant seats on the Wellington Harbour Board. Mr. Lowes, who is a farmer ot Maugaono Valley, is a ton of tho lale Mr. William Lowes, the well-known Masterton auctioneer. This is the fourth candidate in tho field—two being from Jlasterton and two from the bush. Tho result of the election is considered to bo very open. Tho holidays passed off quietly here. A considerable number of townspeople had left for othw localities, aud those who remained divided their patronage between the sports and races. So far, not a nomination has been received for the vacant seats on tho Masterton Borough Council. From present indications it appears improbable that there will be a contest. Since the weather broke on Friday last about three-quarters of an inch of rain has fallen in this district. So lonjj ns tho frosts keep off there can be httlo apprehension now about winter feed. Mr. J. Archer, ths newly-appointed town clerk of Masterton, took up duty today. The ordinary meeting of the Masterton Oildfellows,' Lodge was held last, evening, Bro. L. .1. Hughes X.G., presiding. A considerable quantity of routine busincM was transacted.' About fourteen boxes of butter daily is being turned out at the Mnstorlon dairy factory just nmr. Most of this is l>ollls used for local consumption. A splendid supply of artesian walor lin« been struck 011 the property of Mr. G. M'Kay, at Wangachn. Although it only reaches about thirty feet from the. surface it is of such abundance that it has bwn thought sidvisnble to put in a pump. The Kxceln'or Hockey Club defeated a !w»m from Fetone ■Wednesday Club yesterday by two goals to one.
