Line have received information which states that the steamer Swan ley, cn route from Now York to .'New Zealand ports, arrived at Melbourne 011 Saturday last. The vessel is due at. Cable advice received from Melbourne announces the arrival of the New Zealand Shipping Company's ' chartered steamer Invertay from St. John, Now Brunswick. After calling at Auckland, the vessel comes on to Wellington, being due licro about April 29. . NEKEHANA LEAVES AUCKLAND. Advice has been' received by the local agents of the. Tyser Line (Messrs. So far thirty steamers have been engaged to load fruit in Tasmania, for tho United Kingdom, during the season, which will last from February 17 to June 16. It is expected that the export of apples and pears will be nearly 800,000 bushels. The retirement of Captain J. P. ltuthvcn, senior commander in the Orient Steam Navigation Co., Ltd., has just taken place. Captain Ruthvcn is retiring after fortythree years at sea, of which thirty-one were spent with the Orient Co. At 7 p.m. yesterday tho Union Company's steamer Mapourika left Nelson for Picton and Wellington. She should rcach port about 7 a.m. to-day. Lizzie Taylor, lictch, arrived at Wellington from Timaru early yesterday morning. She left the southern port oil Thursday night, and experienced a. fine weather passage on the run up. After completing discharge she sails for Havclocli, It is expected that the Maoriland Steamship Company's steamer Holmdalo will have completed discharge of her timber from Kaipara by to-morrow night. Afterwards slio will leave Wellington for Grcymouth. Captain S. Stringer, Assistant Superintendent of Marine at. Wellington, has been granted a month's holiday. An arrival at Lyttelton from tho Chatham Islands yesterday was the Canterbury StcanuiMp Company's steamer Storm. She curried a load of sheep up from tho Islands.
