As a result of the inquest regarding the deaths of the victims by the loss of the small steamer Iroquois, which was wrecked near Victoria (8.C.), eighteen lives being lost, Captain Sears, of' tho Iroquois, who at the nautical inquiry admitted that lie went home after lauding tho lifeboat, and did not wait to search for bodied, has been arrested on a charge of manslaughter. The evidence at the inquest showed that the captain did not take proper precautions for the safety of the passengers.
