SIR HENRI TASCHEREAU,
By Telegraph-Press Association-Oopyriirht Ottawa, April IG. The death is announced of Sir Henri Taschereau, cx-Chief Justice of tlio Supremo Court of Canada. Tho Right Hon. Sir Henri Elzear Taschereau (Bean of tho Law Faculty, University ot Ottawa) was l>orn at Quebcc on October 7, 1830. Itc was called to tho Quebcc Bar in 1557, and created Q.C. in 1867, and sat in the Canadian Legislative Assembly for Beaiico County from 18G1 to 18G7. Prom 1871 to 1878 he was Judgo of the Superior Court of Quebec, after which he was made a Judge of the Supreme Court of Canada, which position he held until 1306. Between IS7B and 1903 lie wai Chief Justice, also Administrator of the Government. Ho was created a Knight in 1902, and a Privy Councillor in 11)01. Included in his publications are "Criminal Law of Canada," mid "Code Civil Procedure of the Province of Quebcc." MADAME JUDIC. Paris, April 16.. Madame Judic, the well-known singer and actress, is dead. Madame Anne Marie Louise Judic was born at Semuron July 17,1849. She was educated at the Conservatoire, and made her first appearanco at tho Gymnase in "Les Grandes Demoiselles" in 18G7. After touring tho provinces of Prance she appeared at the JBouffes Parisiennes in the celebrated scries of operas boufl'e bv Otfenbacli, including "La Timbale d'Argcnt," "La, Quenouille do Verre," "Niniche," "La Rousotte," "Lili," "La Sosaq-ue," and "Mam'zelle Nitouche." She subsequently bccamo a celebrated singer of ehahsons, and latterly has- devoted herself to dramatic work. LADY HALLE. Berlin, April' IG. The newspaper "Lokal Anzeiger" announces the death of Lady Halle. A score of years ago Lady Hallo was the first lady violinist in the world, and one of tho best exponents of the instrument before the public. She was married first to Ludwig Norman, of Stockholm, and in ISSS she married Charles Halle, the emiiient pianist and conductor, who was knighted the same year, and who died in 1895. Lady Halle, who was appointed violinist to Queen Alexandra m 1901, was the daughter of Joseph Merudn, of Brun, Austria, and until her marriage to Sir Charles Halle she was known to tho public as Madame Norman Memda. Sir Charles and Lady Halle toured Australasia in 1890-91.
