FOGAZZARO'S DEATH.

THE PASSING OF A GREAT ITALIAN WHITER. Antonio Fogazzaro, the poet and novelist, died at Rome on March 7. Towards threo a.m. lie recovered consciousness, and, realising that the. end was near, asked the doctor whether the day had dawned and the sun was shining. Then he asked for the Viaticum, and a priest hastened to his bedside. Fogazzaro recognised his weeping daughter, and told her that he had asked for the Viaticum. Then he lost consciousness again, and could' not receive communion, but Extreme Unction was administered. His life ebbed away slowly, and at early dawn ho died peacefully; all present knelt weeping and praying round his bedside. Fogazzaro's death, was eommcmoiatod in the Senate and the Chamber, and tributes wore paid to his work and worth, llis death is deeply lamented throughout Italy.
