BROTHER TRIES TO SAVE HER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Dunodin, April 15. Ellen Mary Cullinau, aged 15, and her . brother William Cullinan, aged 13, left the home of their stepfather Charles B. Miller, and journeyed to Kail; in tho Maheno. After arrival tho Cullinans went along to tho Kailc jetty to fish. It is surmised that after angling off tho jetty for somo time tho boy and girl proceeded round tho rocks to continue their fishing, and got blocked in the inlet by tho incoming tide; that in trying to climb round tho rocks again to get into a safe position the girl slipped and istruck her head on a rock, and then fell into the water. I The brother dived in to save her, and caught hold of his sister, but himself got into difficulties. A Maori boy divine in brought him out. ( After some timo William was brought round by artificial respiration. The body of tho sister was brought to the surface py one of the crew of a dinghy .Deceased was taken on board tho Maheno, where artificial respiration was Continued for over two hours, but unavaihngly. ■ ~ „ . Duncdin, April 16. At tho inquest on tho body of Eileen Gullman, who was drowned at the Heads yesterday, tho coroner returned a verdict of accidental death, and said it seemed probable that deceased fell in the water in trying to save her brother.
