THE YEAR'S FINANCES. Tho ordinary mooting of tho Jliramar HormiKli Council was licit! last evening, there being present: Tho .Mayor (Jlr. J. Urmlie), and Councillors Jiichards, Muir, Bowie, 8011, and JL'Lcr.l. A statement was tabled showins Hitfinancial position of tho l;oro>igli ;j.t the dose of tho financial year oil March 31 Inst. The general receipts, including the credit balance of iSSO I.ls. (id. on -March 31, 1010, totalled HHniO 135., while thn cxpoiidituro tot.illcd I'oG'Jl 3s. Id., leaving a balance t:i credit. r,n March 31, 1911, of £S*J i)s. Ltd. This credit balance took into account u prospective amount of £377 Is. .6,1.. interest due on June 1, 1911. Keceipts to the Wharves Account amounted to ,€3'J4 11s. 7d., from which were dedicated amounts totalling £161 9s. 2d., transfers to the Interest Account, leaving a balance of £183 2s. 3d. THE BOROUGH TRAMWAYS. The receipts in the Tramways Account totalled £3356 los. 10d., which amount included the sum of £74 14s. 6d. transferred jo credit from the District Fund, to balance the amount. Passenger receipts totalled £2773 (Is. -Id., carriage of mails, £16 10s.; carriage of papers, £2 10s. 6d.; sale of land, £485 Us. Cd. Tho expenditure on the Tramways Account was'£33s6 los. 10d. A satisfactory feature of tho statement—favourably commented upon by tho councillors—was the fact that the total amount of the general rate struck for tho-year—£3s7l "11s. od.—and the interest rate of a similar amount, had been collected. This lias been a feature of thejjorough's financial statement ever since tho council was constituted. The sinking fund accounts, summararised, showed that the position was as follows : —Receipts : Balance, March 31, 1910, £46 18s. 6d.; sinking fund tramway loan (£23,000), £230; sinking fund, tramway loan (£12,000), £120: sinking fund, street improvement loan (£23.000), £230; sinking fund, sanitation loan, £30; district fund sale of tramways, .ttOs2 195.; interest. £125. 7s. 9d.: total, £1835 ss. 3d. Expenditure: Sanitation loan debentures, £1100; A.M.P., redemption of debentures, £100; investments on mortgage, £450; Public Trustee, £30; bank charge, 10s.; balance on March 31. 1911, £154 15s. 3d: total, £1835 as. 3d. The statement of the public debt, inscribed Tinder the Local Bodies Loans Act, 1901, disclosed a total indebtedness of £ 2..64S ss. 4t1., of which the following is an analysis:-—No. 1 loan, £3060 os. 4d.; No. 2 Joan, £3071 19s. od.; No. 3 loan, £516 14s. 3d.; No. 4 loan debentures, £23,000; No. 5 loan debentures, £12.000; No. R loan debentures, £2S,000; No. 7 loan debentures, £3000. COMPLIMENTS TO THE STAFF. Referring to the work of the year, the Mayor f.ave high praise to the efficient manner in which the council's clerical staff had performed their duties, and moved that tho customary biennial bonuses of £20 and £10 respectively be granted to the borough clerk Qlr.'Bennett), and to his assistant (Miss Bull). The motion was heartily adopted. The Mayor also thanked the council for its co-operation with him in tho administration of tho affairs of the borough (luring the past year.
