Constable J. R. Esson, who has been stationed in Shannon for tjie past two or. three, years, is leaving shortly to t3ko up a similar position at Mangaweka. Mr. and Mrs. •!!'. C. Duncklcy have returned from a holiday, in Nelson. Mr. Dimckley intends going into business again shortly. Another old resident, Mr. A. •M'Plicrsen, of Palmerston North, is likely, to again hike' up .residence in Shannon. In a letter received from a firm of merchants at Home, tho local Co-opera-tive Dairy Company are advised to go in for cheese-making is, in the probable event of the ratification of tho reciprocity agreement between the United States and Canada, the bulk of Canadian clioeso will go over tho border, and there will in consequence bo a greater demand for that article at Home. A survey party is at present traversing the ranges between Eketahuna and Shannon in connection with the Ekcta-huna-Shannon track. Residents of Eketahuna and local people have been agitating for this route for a .number of years; and arc now in a fair way towards seeing their hopes renlised. Three or four reports (made by engineers at various times) regarding tlie Mangahao-Tokomaru hydro-electric scheme have been received by Councillors Venn and Stephenson, and it is likely that a meeting will be called shortly to receive these reports, and to appoint a deputation to wait on the Minister. This deputation will probably include tho Mayors of Levin and Foxten, lopresontatives of the flax industry, councillors for Tokomaru riding, one! others.
WOODVILLE. Miss C. Davis, eldest daughter of Mrs. C. Davis is to bo married c-n Easter Monday at tlio Liojy Trinity Church to Mr. Holms, of Gisbornc. Matters in connection with the municipal election are becoming nioro animated. Several of the candidates arc now actively engaged in placing names on the roll. I "Hospital Sunday" is being arranged by a Pahiatua committee for April 30. Delegates from the various societies here are asked to attend. The band is also invited to give a musical programme on the occasion. OTAKI. The Hon. D. Buddo, Mr. W. H. Field, M.1 , ., and a party, composed chiefly of settlers of Otaki Uorge, left at an 'early hour on Monday morning for Mount Tanngata. 'The opening of tho Otaki Golf Club's season took place on Saturday afternoon when quite a large gathering patronised the links. Bills, senr when a presentation was made to Miss Bills, whose wedding takes place on Wednesday next. A convivial ovenin" re spent. Teams from the Wellington, Hutt, Aewtown, hhnndnllnh, A ictoria, Palmerston, and Otaki Clubs have, however en lered, making in all a dozen teams while entries are expected from Thorndon Levin, and Foston.
