Tiie secretary of the Wellington Rugby Union, writing to (ho Petone Borough Council with reference lo the union's lease of playing grounds in Pelone, stated that tiie'borough solicitor (Mr. E. C. Kirk), when interviewed on the subject of tho draft agreement between the borough and the union, appeared (o bo under (he impression that the latter had already received and approved the document. As a matter of fact, said the writer, the agreement was only dealt with by the union, and certain, alterations minuted at a meeting of the union held on April 0 last. As soon as tho union's solicitor had looked through.the agreement the council would be advised.

The council "received" the letter at ils last meeting, indicating that the alterations referred to would be closely scrutiniscd when tho amended draft camp to hand.

ASSOCIATION,

THE SEW ZEALAND REFEREES. A meeting of tho New Zealand Referees' Association ("soccer" game) was held last evening, Jlr. \V. Munckton presiding. There were also present Messrs. W. 15. Wells, C. E. Fordhnm, C. J. Ward, 11. G. Mayer, B. L. Salmon, and 11. l'eohian.

The secretary of the Xeiv Zealand Football Association wrote stating his council had approved of several decisions of fhe Referc-os' Association, but one (charging the ball during the game) it had decided to send on to the Football Association for a ruling.—Received.

Mr. Mayer reported that he had received the badges which had been adopted for use by referees throughout tho Dominion. 111 connection with referees, Mr. Salmon pointed, out that although tho new constitution, as proposed at the last meeting,' provided for a standard of examination being set up, nothing had been done :o far.' II was necessary that something should be arranged before the badges could be issued. Considerable discussion took place 011 this matter, the opinion being that it would bo one thing to institute uniform examination but quite another matter to see it carried out properly. One delegate produced a copy of a set of questions (recently used by one of the local associations!, and it was promptly characterised as being quite inadequate. Eventually the question was loft to Jlessrs. Yeoman and Fordham to draft a schcme and submit it to the next meeting. The secretary was instructed to write to the Manawatu Football Association suggesting the formation nf a referees' association in Talmerston North.
