SALVATION ARMY.
GENERAL BOOTH'S BIRTHDAY. Special services were held on Sunday at the Constable Street Salvation Army Rail, when Lieutenant-Colonel Birkenshaw paid his first visit to the Wellington South congregation. Large congregations attended each of the three services, and tho muster of the South Wellington Band was larger than for some time past. Each service was conducted by Colonel Birkenshaw, assisted by Major Johnson. A centra! feature of the afternoon service was the dedication of a child, and upon the same occasion five recruits were "sworn in" at the expiration of their period of probation. At the evening service, Colonel Birkenshaw delivered a powerful address from tho text, "Be sure your sin shall find you out," in the course of which he dwelt upon tho sin of neglecting tuition of the rising generation in the ethics of respect for God and authority. Who, the speaker asked, was responsible for the absence of Bible lessons in schools and family altar in private homes? Jlo averred that, with the twaddle of rationalism and also Socialism bereft of a living Christ men and women were being deluded to their doom. While powerfully illustrating his theme with ancient and medern incidents of national and private sins, Colonel Birkenshaw emphasised the statement that sin was enticingly sweet, but intensely deadly in its effects. The address was niientivolv listened to, and appeared t 0 make a' deep impression on all present.
