A SETTLER DROWNED
IBj Tcleeraph.—rres3 Association.) Auckland, April 10. Arthur Ryan, a settler, was drowned while bathing at Luke's beach, in tho Tamaki River (Otaiiuhu) yesterday afternoon. Ryan, who was about fifty years of age, was staving with his wii'o at the residence of J.)r. Rowley, his brother-in-law. At 3 o'clock in the afternoon he set out for a bathe. As lie did not return when he was expejtcl his relatives became anxious, and 011 instituting a search discovered his clothes in a bathing hut at 7 o'clock in the evening. The' police found Ryan's body two hours later 011 tho beach, tho tide having receded. Deceased was known lo be a good swimmer, and it is surmised his death resulted through cramp,
