The monthly meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council was hold on Saturday evening. Those present were the Mayer (Mr. il. W. Shortt) imil Councillors Mackenzie, Boss, Russell, ami Wills, und the town clerk. _ Only routine business was takeu, nt the conclusion of which the Mayor look tho opportunity, it being tho thud meeting of the council's term of oflicc, to tlmuk tho councillors for tho ready nssislanco they had ijiven him in his official capacity. Each councillor present paid a tribute to the ability shown by the Mayor in tho conduct of the council's business. A vote of thanks was passed to tho town cleric for his services, and nlso to tho start for their faithful attention to work. In returning thanks for the kind expressions concerning himself, the Mayor said that ho hoped to be returned at tho approaching election, but whatever happened ho trusted that personal auiniup would be kept out of the contest,
