THE SPY'S CAREER.
By Telcsraph-Press Association-Copyrieht Paris, April 7. It transpires that Maiinon, who was arrested, together with his secretary ana M. Koutet, a clerk in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and charged removing important documents from tho Foreign Office and communicating their contents to a foreign Tower, is a Jlohanii medaii, naturalised in England.
The newspaper "Matin" understands that the documents ore of capital importance to France's safety, and that they were handed to more than one Power.
(Rec. April 10, 0.35 a.m.) Paris, April 9. The newspaper state that the secret documents alleged to havo been removed by Maimon were used to make Russia believo thiit France was co-operating with Great Britain against Russian interests. It is stated in various quarters that Sir Edward Grey, British Foreign Secretary, was offered the documents, and informed M. Pichon, the French Foreign Minister of the fact. A London newspaper was similarly offered the papers, and also warned M. Pichon.
Maimon is stated to have had a picturesque career. Ho was born in Syria, and served Abdul Hamil, the deposed Sultan of Turkey, for many years as a spy. He is said to have obtained the concession for the Bagdad Railway, and is also suspected of the disclosure of the tenor of the recent Russo-Gerrnan proposals discussed by the two Emperors at Potsdam.
