BOATS IN CAIRNS STREETS. By Telee'raph-Press Association-Copyricht Brisbane, April 5. During Saturday , the flood waters at Cairns covered a large part of the township, and boats were plying for hire in the streets. The esplanade was badly damaged. In the Kameranga district houses were •swept away. At'Kuranda twenty-five inches of rain fell during the twenty-four hours ending on Saturday last, Railway traffic has been suspended in the flooded districts. The rain has ceased, and the- outlook is brighter.
EXTRAORDINARY RAINFALL. (Rec. April G, 0.15 a.m.) Brisbane, April 5. The rainfall at Cairns during four days amounted to forty-eight inches, and at Karundah fifty-two inches fell in fortyeight hours. There have been many washaways and landslips at Cairns, and the railway bridges have been badly damaged. The cane crops have also suffered severely. SMe the beginning of the year the rainfall at Cairns has been 147J inches.'
