MATATUA ARRIVES AT LONDON. Information has been received by the local agents of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company intimating that the steamer Matatua, which cleared Gisborne on February 16, arrived at London on Sunday last, April 2. Tho passage Home thus occupied 45 days.
RUAPEUU ARRIVES TO-DAY. Expected at Wellington about noon today, the New Zealand Shipping Company's F.M.S. Ruapehu, from London, via Cape Town and llobart, will anchor in the stream to await tho rustomary medical inspection. She then berths at the Queen's Wltarf No. 1 south to discharge cargo and land passengers.
KAIKOURA'S LATEST MOVEMENTS. Two more ports have been added to the Kaikoura's loading programme. She left Auckland last night for Wellington. In addition to the ports of call already mentioned, the vessel visits Napier, en route to Wellington, and Wanganui subsequently. She leaves the Bluff finally for London ou April 30.
WIMHEBA'S BOUGH TRIP. According to Hie "New Zealand Herald" the Itiiddart-Parker steamer Wimmera had a somewhat trying experience on the run across from .Sydney to Auckland this trip. Leaving tile New South Wales port on Wednesday last, the vessel immediately ran into dirty weather. On Thursday morning, the Wimmera encountered a strong northerly gale, with mountainous seas. The vessel rolled and pitched a great deal, and large quantities of water were shipped, but no damage was done. The weather moderated i: little till Saturday evening, when the Wimmera again encountered a strong gale, the vessel being then in the vicinity ot the New Zealand coast. Strong northerly winds and high rough reas were then encountered on the run down the coast to arrival at 7.'13 p.m. on Sunday.
MANUKA FOIi SAN FP.ANCISCO. At 3 o'clock this afternoon the Union Company's steamer Manuka Is to leave her berth at No. 16 Jervois Quay for San Prancisco, via Auckland, Barol-onga, and Papeete. Her cargo is not a very large one, consisting as it docs of several tons or onions, and some transhipments, In regard to her passenger accommodation, however, better results have been attained. WHAKARUA. FROM LONDON. Yesterday morning the Tyscr Lino's steamer Whakarna, Captain J. Firth, arrived at Wellington from London, via way ports, and berthed at the Taranalii Street Wharf to complete discharge. Leaving tho Royal Albert Docks on January 27 the vessel called at Las Palmas on February 2 for tho pu.'POFe of bunkering. The Capo of Good llppe was passed on February }9. and Melbourne reached on March 10. The vessel u<txt visited Sydney, Auckland, and Napier, leaving the last-mentioned port for here at 4.45 p.m. on Monday, and arrived at 11.50 a.m. The voyage out was devoid of incident, fine weather generally being experienced throughout. Upon completion of discharge of her 18C0 tons of Wellington cargo the Whakarua commences to load for IToir.c, and is espectcd to sot away for Gisbome on Friday next.

Captain Broia, of the French ship Nocmi. which arrived at Newcastle from Monte Video on March 26, had on board his vessel a woman whose presence had caused him tome trouble and embarrassment. The woman in question joined the ship at Monte Video as an able-bodied seaman, being at tho time disguised as a man. It appears that she and her husband signed on as members of the rrew, and it was not until the vessel was two days out thai tho skipper became aware of the presence of a woman in the forecastle. An intimation of this fact was, however, conveyed to Iho captain by_ the woman's husband. She was immediately removed from the men's quarters, and was provided with a cabin in another part of the ship. The disguise had been perfect, her hair having been cut short.
