SPEECH BY HON. D. BUDDO.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, April J. The Hon. D. Buddo addressed his constituents at Kaiapoi to-night, and was accorded a good reception. He dealt at some length with the legislation of tho past session, and, referring to land settlement, he stated that during the past three years 4,015,333 acres had been taken up, leaving only 3,919,139-acres of .Crown land available, of which 200,000 acres were first-class land. Ho defended the Government from the accusation of keeping millions of acres of Native land from settlement, and declared that if the present rate of settlement of these lands was maintained, it would only bo a few yenrs before all was'occupied. He dealt at some length with the speech delivered by Mr. Massey at Kaiapoi, taking up tho general line that the Government's legislation was in tho interests of tho community generally, whilst the Opposition's policy was one of individualism.
