The Hon. G. Fowlds returned from Auckland last evening.

Mr. W. F. Massey, Leader of the Opposition, was a passenger from Nelson to AVellington by the Pateena last night.

Mr. Robert Bell, managing director of the "Ashburton Mail and. Gusadian," who has been making a short stay in Wellington, leaves by the Main Trunk express to-day to join the Horeo, at Auckland, en route to Marseilles. Mr. Bell expects to be absent from the Dominion about twelve months, and in his (our will visit Egypt, the Norwegian and Baltic ports, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, returning via Canada and the United States.

Dr. Gregory, .Dean of St. Paul's, London, who is !U, has announced his desire lo retire from the deanery of St. Paul's at the end of April. Gibson, of Raolihi, whose death was rendered peculiarly sad by its suddenness, and Mrs. F. Bennett, of Kotorua, whose call came while she was just in the prime of life.

The Mayor of Wanganui (Mr. C. E. MacKay) yesterday acceded to a requisition signed by a large number of citizens 'asking him to stand for the Mayoralty agaiu. He stated that he had not intended to come forward again, but had been pressed to do so by many, and as it was thought, that ho should carry out the tramway extension and suburban amalgamation schemes he had changed his mind, and would be a candidate.

' The Rev. J. Dawson, general secretary of the New Zealand Alliance, left for Auckland yesterday. He is to lour the north of Auckland in company with Mr. Poole, M.P., winding up the campaign with a No-Lie?nse Convention to be held at Whangarei at Easter. Mr. T. E. Taylor. M.P., is to visit, the West Coast on Alliance business during Easter.

A Press Association message from Melbourne received yesterday morning states that Mr. E. G. Jellicoe. lawyer, formerly of Wellington, has arrived there by tire steamer Jlorca, en route for New Zealand.

The death has taken place here (states a Press Association telegram from Nelson) of Mrs. Elisabeth Low, relict of the late Captain Low, formerly harbourmaster at Nelson; aged 81 years.

Mr. C. I. Dasent has definitely decided njc.t to sesk re-election is Mayor of Karori. He told a reporter yesterday that he only sought election last year in view of tho fact that municipal undertakings which he had assisted to launch wore then in an incomplete state.
