WELLINGTON COLLEGE GOVERNORS
OLD BOYS .WANT REPRESENTATION. Those present at the meeting.of the Board of Governors of Wellington Collego yesterday were Mr. A. do B. Brandon (presiding). Miss Richmond, Messrs. R Lee, W. H. P. Barber, W. F. Ward, and W. H. Field, M.P. Tho statement of finances at March 30 showed a credit balance of £2321 lis. 7d. The president of tho Wellington Old Boys' Association (Mr. A. .It. Meek) wroto that for some time- past the association ■ had had under consideration the desirableness of tho Old Boys having direct representation, on tho Board of Governors. Tho matter- had been brought under tho notice of tho Minister for Education who had expressed sympathy, but so,far he liad been un- , able-to bring in an Enabling Bill. The committee had been advised that tho .simplest way of attaining its.cnd was that an extra member should he added to the hoard and bo elected by the members of tho association: Mr. Lee said he felt inclined to. support the appeal. , The cliairman, although a member of the Old Boys', Association,' was against the proposal. Ho did not sco that tho Old Boys had any particular claim in tho management of tho alleges. Thoso Old Boys wlio were parents had their representation as parents. He did not agree to any election on an extended franchise. It was pointed out that the Old Girls would also bo entitled to representation if the application were granted. Mr. Barber agreed witli the chairman. On tho motion of the chairman it was decided to defer the matter.
