News has been received of the appointment of Sir Edward OsbornoGibbes to be honorary local representative of the Associated Board of the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music, London. Macdonald, who has been associated with Dr. Mackin in his practice during the past three years, leaves for England during tho present month. It is understood that Dr. Ernest A. Boxer, who has been in general practice in Glasgow for some years, is a passenger by tho R.M'.S. Rotorua, arriving liere on May 1, and will join Dr. Mackin in practice. The Rev. Father Holley, who succeeds •Dean Grogan in charge of the Catholic parish of St. Mary's, Wanganui, was installed in his new euro this week by the vicar-general. Dean Grogan is to take an extended holiday prior to entering on another sphere of work. , A faculty to act as notary public uas granted to Mr. J. A. Tripe, 8.A., LL.B., of the legal firm of Young and Tripe, yesterday. The necessary oath was administered by his Honour, Mr. Justice Chapman. Mr. and Mrs. John Bluudell left Wellington by the Marama last night, en route for the Old Country, via Sydney and Vancouver. Mr. J. H. Chapman, shipping clerk in tho Customs Department, has been appointed statistician in the head office, vice Mr. W. O'Moara, who has been transferred to New Plymouth as land-ing-waiten Mr. W. H. S. Lewis, cleric at New Plymouth, comes to tho Wellington office. Prior to commencing afternoon duty yesterday the. letter-carriers assembled to bid farewell to Mr. W. S. Clancy, who has for the past two and a half years been attached to tho Wellington staff, and who was formerly for some years in tho Dunerlin oflice. * The Chief Postmaster (Mr. D. Millar), on behalf of the carriers and staff, presented Mr. Clancy with a portmanteau and razorstrop. In doing so he expressed tho general regret felt by Mr. Clancy's coworkers at his leaving. Mr. J. Johnston and Mr. R. Spear also spoke, referring to tho great interest the recipient had ever taken in tho Social Club work. Mr. Clancy, who by his genial and kindly nature, lias made hosts of friends in mid out of tho service, intends shortly to leave for tho United States, where ho is about to enter upon new employment. Mr. Clancy thanked tho staff for tho presents.
Much less than a year ago Wellington was discussing in vaguo generalities a proposal to erect a Children's Hospital in this city. To-day ono is in course of erection that is already paid for. Tho chief credit for this must go to Mr. Hugh J. Ward, tho popular actor-man-ager, whoso electrical action and energy fired tho public with enthusiasm, and drew from them the wherewithal to pay for a hospital. He gave generously himself, and tho members of his talented company seconded his efforts with great heartiness. This has not been forgotten. A fow of those who appreciated Mr. Ward's great effort met yesterday, to discuss the manner in which they should show that the record is still bright on the tablets of memory. The proposal was that a public reception should 1)0 tendered Mr. Ward on his return to Wellington, to indicate tho appreciation of the citizens for bis notable effort in connection with tho raising of funds for tho erection of a Children's Hospital. It was decided to call a meeting of all interested, to take, place at 5 p.m. on Monday, when tho definite fofm of the function would bo decided upon. An advertisement in this is*no draws attention to tho meeting. Mr. Ward is duo to arrive hero to-day.
Mr. E. W. Burton, solicitor, of Auckland, arrived in Wellington yesterday to attend the sittings of tlio Court of Appeal.
Mr. David Robertson has been reelected chairman of tho Technical Education Board for the ensuing twelvo months.
Mr. W. I'ryor, secretary'of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, has been in Wani'nnui for a low days, and as a result of his visit a large, increase in the membership to tho local Employers' Association nas been secured.— Tress Association,.
