(From Our Special Correspondents.) ' —0 —— FEILDIHC. The Cheltenham School's annual flower show and entertainment took plaeo yesterday under perfcct conditions. Mr. D. H. Guthrie, M.P., presided over the concert and dance. A conference of six local bodies, liojd in Feilding yesterday afternoon, decided to support Mr. Jno. Cobbe for one of the two seats 011 "the Wellington Harbour Hoard. Mi. M. Cohen will not be opposed from this end of the district. An effort is being made to start a chess and draughts club in Feilcling. Facilities will be offered by the Library Committee in the way of providing a room and sets of chessmen, etc. It is hoped to get sufficient support to start tho winter with a tournament. Captain Barltrop presided' at the annual meeting of the Manchester Rifles 011 • Thursday night. The corps was shown to be in a good financial position. Numerous inquiries are being made after farms to buy, but sellers are few. Mr Holborn, wlio acquired a farm here lately, has had built a handsome residence, finished in an up-to-date manner. A garden party to celebrate the event is to be ' given by Mr. and Mrs. Holborn. Mr. Wildsmith, tho contractor for the new. Roman Catholic Church in course of construction, hopes to have tho building ready for opening in June next. The Hautere Riflo Club were well re- . presented .'at tho Trentham meeting by that promising young marksman,' Mr. G. Glacken. At-the rango hero last Saturday the same rifleman put up tho fine score of 100' out of 105 at tho 200, 500, and 600 yards, including a possible at 600 yards, winning Mr. Mills's medal for the first 100 on the range aiid Mr. VickcrsV trophy for the first possible. The young shots here arc pleased with ■the idea of the new. target. As one remarked, it will make shooting more difficult, but what of that—all tho more fun.' Mr. A. M'Cheyno Murray, of "Glenveigli," has sold his property here at a satisfactory figure, and intends' taking a health trip to .the Old Country. The residents in the Waiot-auro Valley arc busy sowing down their burns, which, owing to'the want of wind, were not as good as was-expected.
