WANTED A CENSOR.
——« TO EXAMINE PICTURE FILMS. (By Telcirapli.—Special Correspondent!■ Auckland, March 29. The resolution of the AV'.C.T.U. at New Plymouth regarding a censor for living pictures was referred to 311 iss Dewhr, corresponding secretary for the W.C.T.U. in Auckland. This lady said the matter had not been discussed by the Auckland branch before the delegates left for the convention, but no doubt the irioliun was passed as the result of some particular instance which was not known here. The only time, continued Miss Dcwar, tiiat the. matter was brought up in Auckland was when objection, was raised to the presentment of the Jeffries-Johnson ■ light pictures. It was recognised that the pictures might be made of educational value, but no doubt some of the ladies at the convention had somo particular instance where pictures of an immoral kind, had been shown, or the matter would not have been brought.up. "Because," concluded Miss Dewar, "they always have evidence on these' matters before they pass resolutions." The resolution referred to is as follows: —"That'in view of tho fact that exhibitions'of' moving .-picture's, which arc 'so popular with all ages and classes of the community, may.either be of great educational value both to head and heart, or bo subtle but effective teachers of immorality nnd. vice,'women of W.C.T.U. in convention assembled urge on the Government the need.of appointing n censor to examine nil films proposed to bo publicly exhibited."
