.On Thursday evening the Rev. Mr. Lewis lectured in the local Presbyterian Church on "Mark Twain." The proceeds are to be devoted to the Sunday School funds. The- A. and L. Seifert Flaxdressing Company have installed three LuthcWynyard • washing plants, and intend to install others. The AVeka Flaxdrcssing Company are likely to start their new mill some time after Easter. There has until lately been a shortage of labour locally, but there -are plenty of.-men available .now., ~,,.;,_ The-'football season opens on Saturday, when Miranui mill plays a-combined team ifrp)n Shannoji'yijid the:swamp hands. There is stiirno"appearance of rain, and housewives and others are anxiously examining the horizon for signs of Mr. Bates's predicted storm. The following officer-bearers have been elected by the Shannon Football Club:— Patron, Mr. G. N. 'Wood, J.P.; president, Mr. E. J. King; vice-presidents, Messrs. Callaghan, Moynihan. Logan, Webb, Perrean, Murray, Murdoch, Martin, Gunning, Merwood, O'Connor. Roach, Lind, Carter, Bilderdeck, Dunckley, Shearman, and Bromley; secretary, Mr. Grimstonc; treasurer, Mr. W. Moynihan; delegates, to be selected from Messrs. King, While, Moynihan, Moreland, M'Lennan; selection committee, Messrs. W. Moynihan, Moreland, and King; management committee Messrs. White, .Woods, Taggart, Sinclair, secretary, and treasurer. The balance-sheet of the flower show recently held under the management of the Presbyterian Ladies' Guild showed a profit of M 2 6s. The total receipts amounted to .£73 Hs.. and the expenditure to .£3l Rs. To the efforts of Mr. and Mis. Galland this successful resait was largely due. Miss Mason, who has been on the local school staff for some time, is leaving here next week. On the bowline green on Wednesday afternoon Roach (18) defeated Knowles (16) in the r.hnmnion singles. Hansen and Clayton (s.) (16) were defeated by Mitchell and E«vm (s.) (26) in the Disvi Pins competition.
