THE LANDING OF THE PIONEERS.

OBELISK UNVEILED. (By Telecra'ph—Pres9 Association.) New Plymouth, March 30. The unveiling of an obelisk to commemorate the landing of pioneer settlers of Taranaki at Moturoa in 18-11 and 18-12 took place to-day in the presence of a great gathering, including many pioneers and veterans. Speeches were made by the Hon. Thos. Mackenzie, Air. Okoy (member for Taranaki), Mr. Carncross, M.L.C., and Mr. Tisch (.Mayor of New Plymouth). ' The actual unveiling was performed by Mesd.amos Wood and Smith, lady passengers by tho William -Bryan, which arrived in Taranaki on March 31, 1841. Prior to the ceremony the pioneers and veterans were ontertained at- luncheon at tho freezing works. In the evening the veterans held a smoke concert. Tho wholo proceedings were most successful. '
