THE PURSUIT OF THE POLE.
NO GROUND POR CRITICISM. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyrieht , Sydney, March 30. Professor David says there is little doubt that Captain Amundsen will not uso Sir Ernest Shackleton's route to the Pole, but will strike out on an entirely new route. As to' Dr. Mawson's criticism regarding Captain Scott sending a party to Cape Adare, Professor David thinks there is no ground for adverse criticism. In view of the.season being so late, the party had no time to erect their own hut on a new area, and were compelled to go where a hut had already been erected. Tho only such place was Cape Adare, and Dr. Mawson's expedition 1 would be enhanced rather than otherwise by the Adare party making preliminary observations.
THE RIVAL EXPLORERS. Sydney, March 30. The Consul, for Norway, in a .letter ti the press, states that Captain Amundsen, before starting on his expedition, advised Captain Scott of his intentions. Lieutenant. Gran, a' member of Scott's party, told tho Consul this when the party was in Sydney. .
