THE MEAT TRADE.
IMPORTANT MOVES BY AUSTKALIA. The recent Australian conference .of State Ministers- of Agriculture determined to ask the-Commonwealth Government 'to nse overy effort to secure the modification of the present, embargo on the introduction of Australian meat into German}-, Austria, and other European countries, and (says "The Australasian") adopted the following motion regarding recent attacks on Australian beef:—"This conference strongly condemns the unwarranted statements appearing in 'John Bull' and 'Mrs. Bull,' two English publications, concerning nodules in Australian beef, and desires that the Commonwealth Government should take action to contradict officially the statements 'and suggestions referred to, and to place before the British public the fact that every precaution is taken by the Australian Government to prevent' the export of diseased or inferior meat." A general expression of approval was given to the proposal that a direct shipping service should bo secured between Australia and Manchester, through the Ship Canal, and it was agreed that the various Stato Governments should give the question their attention'.
